Hebrew Minute: Anger & Nose

Here is a fun Hebrew fact: אף pronounced "off" is the Hebrew word for anger.

The word literally means nose. (Possibly to flare one's nose at another). A common biblical expression is to be careful not to let anger burn (Ex. 4:14. Jer. 7:20, 11:16), which could also be read not to burn one's nose. The only way to know which it is, is to read it in context. The author's usually meant that is was unwise to kindle the Lord's great anger, (not to burn his big nose, lol).
